| This hotel is justifiably near the very top of the ratings for visitors to Taormina. The room was lovely, I think with an upgrade, as we had booked a standard room and received a room with a lounge section as well as a stunning, huge bathroom and large beautiful bedroom. The staff were lovely; we very much enjoyed talking to the Australian cook who provided us with a sumptuous breakfast buffet every morning whilst we gazed at a smoking Etna from the roof terrace. Nothing was too much trouble. My laundry was returned the same day, ironed and beautifully presented and reception helped us to park our car on a local side street rather than pay the 15 euros a night garage fee. Arthur in the bar was an exellent English speaker and a wonderful fountain of local knowledge. The pool is small and deep but ideal for cooling off as sunbathing/reading was our main activity. One point: the drainage in the bath/shower was poor which meant waiting a while between showers. However, I'm nitpicking. I can think of 30 excellent things with which to counter this one, minor complaint. Youngsters would find the sedate atmosphere a little formal but us 40 somethings loved it! |

| Our room was beautiful, with a terrace that was surrounded by jasmine and bouganvilleas, overlooking the sea. The gardens are lovely, with quiet shady areas and great sunspots, a small but big enough pool with a poolside bar with great finger food , drinks and ice-creams . The staff at the hotel are outstanding, helpful, ever-present but never intrusive .Their recommendation for our dinner was obviously tried and tested – and wonderful, don’t miss dinner at Licchios , wonderful food, great wine and lovely atmosphere. A special thank to Mr Andrea ,the owner ; we didn’t feel that we were staying in an hotel, but that we had gone to wonderful house party with a fabulous invisible host who guided us and made sure that we got the most from our time in Taormina. His family owns also the Villa Ducale where we stayed the previous night and I can't personally say which of the two hotels is better ... we can’t wait to return. |
