The hotel is so perfect for a Venetian feel that you probably won't get elsewhere. The rooms are small, but this is normal for Venice and normally you aren't there to stay in your room! The hotel is very beautiful and the staff is great, very helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants great atmosphere and an amazing hotel for a cheap price.

Our flight from Rome to Venice was cancelled, so after waiting at the airport in Rome for 12 hours until our next flight we had quite negative expectations of the hotel and our time in Venice due to the bad luck we'd had that day. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by very friendly staff, and shown to our room. The word that comes to mind for it is stunning! It was a different room to the ones shown on the pictures on the hotel's website, but equally beautiful. As the property is a recently renovated traditional venetian house, it echoes the beauty you see outside. The waterbus stop is literally a few steps outside the hotel, just be sure not to get confused as Fondamenta Nuove can be tricky as to working out the destinations of the waterbuses as they can go across to Murano as well as round the main island. The staff had a recommendation for a restaurant within 3 minutes walking distance of the hotel, it was very reasonably priced and served some of the best food we've ever had! Our stay in Venice was short but our stay in this hotel helped to ensure that we will return in the very near future!!

It was wonderful to step off the vaporetto at Fondamenta Nuovo and step into our hotel.THe Cannaregio neighborhood had ample restaurants, shopping, Geus Church worth a visit etc. We were glad to be in this neighborhood once we saw the congestion around the San Marco area. Venice is so walkable and after one or two attempts we felt comfortable getting around the area. It was a bit far on the vaparetto from the train station but it was a lovely ride and any excuse to be on the vaparetto in Venice was a good one. We could see Murano from our window. We could also hear the early morning commuter traffice outside the window. The room and bathroom were small, but clean and adequate for a two day stay. Breakfasts were fine. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful.

Excellent access to hotel from Vaperetto - a blessing after traveling all night with heavy bags. My wife says she could have cried with relief at the point of our arrival, to find it as easy as the website indicated, and then the staff was very welcoming and helpful, to make it even better to have arrived, at last. Matteo's English was good enough to make jokes. His restaurant recommendation was just great. So good we went back a second time. We loved the view of the laguna from our window, and the location, in general, away from crowds, but only a 15 minute walk to Piazza San Marco, and that by the Corleone statue in the piazza on the way! Breakfast was limited, but good, with excellent coffee. We would definitely stay there again.

Mateo was great. He has a very nice hotel and a great location on the water looking towards Murano. The hotel is a very easy walk to the rest of Venice, which is nice because you then get to see more of the "real" Venice and not just the turist attractions. The only time we took a water taxi was to Murano and back to the train station. My wife and I would return. Mateo - Have fun on your L.A. vacation this year.

The day we arrived it was pouring rain. Happily, when we got off the Vaporetti, our hotel was right in front of us. We had a Jr. Suite. Our room looked like the picture. This is not in the super touristy area. We were on the first floor, and even with double pain windows, you could hear people in the alley every morning talking outside our window. This is probably to be expected, and presented no real problem. My husband is a light sleeper so he used ear plugs, and that did the trick. The island of Morano was directly across from the hotel, so it was very convenient. Breakfast was fine as well. My husband and I tried cappicino for the first time and liked it. We were a bit intimidated at first by the owner, Matteo. It took a while for us to get our bearings on land, as we arrived by boat. On our first morning, I asked him about walking directions to San Marco. Without knowing that, my husband asked him the same thing. Then we came back to clarify. Needless to say, our repeat requests were a pain. However, as a proprietor of a hotel, one would think he might have attempted to avoid reminding us with exasperation that he had already told us before! We told him that we were sorry if he thought we were stupid Americans with no sense of direction, and that we had chosen his hotel through Venere because of positive comments we had read about him. After that, he lightened up. We were prepared for the tiny shower in the corner of the bathroom, as we had read about it in reviews. However, it really took some maneuvering to avoid flooding the bathroom floor with water. We were super careful not to make a mess, but the shower curtain didn't come to the floor, so it was impossible to avoid. We enjoyed our small frig and the safe. On our second day the sun came out and Venice was spectacular. Great trip.

First of all, you must remember that this is Venice: one cannot expect spacious rooms unless one is willing to spend an exorbitant rate (so the rooms are not large, but read on...). The value/price ratio is VERY high in this place, which is originally a 15th century family home which has recently been renovated into 8 charming rooms. Matteo, who owns the place and who works the front desk for 15 hours a day, is most charming and always ready with a smile and words of wisdom about what to see in his home town. THIS PLACE IS AN UNDISCOVERED GEM! It is in the Canareggio district, literally right ON the water, directly in front of the Fundamenta Noeve foot ferry landing place--if you come from the train station, you will only have to walk three steps into the hotel lobby; if you come from the ferry from the airport, go left up over one short bridge, and voila--Hotel Vecellio. The room we stayed in overlooked the water and all the interesting hubbub of Canareggio, which is one of the few residental sections left in Venezia. Just outside the hotel were several good bars (think, yummy chewy Venetian sandwiches) and restaurants, two cash machines, a flower seller, a newsstand which sells maps of Venice, and a postbox. Great walks throughout the day and evening along charming side canals, lovely piazzas (especially the church piazza of Giuseppe e Paolo, with five sidewalk cafes--lovely, peaceful atmosphere away from the touristy bustle of San Marco Square and the Rialto bridge (only a 15 minute walk away, if you can tolerate the massive tourist logjam there). I almost hestitate to write such a glowing review, as I feel that we have found such a GEM of a place to stay, and I fear that too many glowing reviews will mean that Matteo will no longer have room for us. On the other hand, we would like Matteo to still be in business when we return in five years, and his hotel was not full any of the three days we stayed there. Not many folks care to stay in Canareggio, as the

Matteo was very helpfull and we enjoyed our stay in Venice very much! If we ever are to visit Venice again, there is no doubt where we will stay! The hotel is perfectly situated in the part of the city where the locals live, and we ate and drank food much better and cheaper, which was served by much more pleasant waitors than any of the typical tourist places could offer. Excellent!

This hotel is highly recommended! My fiancee and I were so impressed with the location and the quality of the hotel for the price we paid. We couldn't believe that the vaporetti stop was right in front of the hotel door. You only need 5 seconds to arrive after you alight at the stop!

Friendly and helpful reception. Hotel just 50 yards from waterbus stop - to airport (6 euros each way) runs every hour. Only 1 bridge to negotiate with luggage and 15-20 minute walk to St Marks Square. Room a bit cramped, but clean, with aircon and views of mainland. Great ice creams and restaurant on Fondamenta Nuova, just 20 yards away. Will stay there next time in Venice.
