Description:Location. Named one of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World, The G Hotel is located in Galway, Ireland, just one kilometer from the Roman Catholic Cathedral and Salmon Weir Bridge.
Hotel Features. Louis XVI-style chairs, glass and chrome furnishings and Venetian-plaster moldings are part of the eclectic design crafted by Philip Treacy, the renowned hat designer and native of Galway. The G Hotel won the Travel + Leisure Design Award for Best Large Hotel in 2007. ESPA, Ireland's first "urban" spa, creates a soothing oasis in stone, linen, glass and wood that overlooks a Japanese bamboo garden. Rain showers, rock saunas, tepidariums, ice fountains, fitness center and vitality pool with a water wall add additional appeal. Riva at The G, the contemporary Italian eatery, serves risotto, seafood and pasta specialties amongst purple velvet banquettes and Andrew Martin chairs in jewel tones. A carpet of tiny Red Swarovski crystals graces the G's Cocktail Bar. Six meeting suites boast break-out areas, a Sky Lounge and two theaters at the adjoining Eye Cinema. Wireless Internet access is available.

Guestrooms. Theatrical public spaces give way to subdued, intimate guestrooms. Inspired by Galway's landscapes and seashores, the rooms utilize materials and textures synonymous with a day at the shore, including conch shell pillows and white Frette linens. A CD/DVD player and in-suite library provide entertainment options. Many bathrooms showcase showers built for two, monogrammed bathrobes and slippers, and Etro toiletries.

Expert Tip. Glamorous sitting areas set apart The G Hotel from the rest. A raspberry-colored catwalk leads to the Grand Salon, showcasing Lough Atalia from floor-to-ceiling windows and Swarovski crystals embedded into occasional tables. The Pink Salon features Andy Warhol camouflage print chairs and black-and-white vortex carpet amidst hot pink and purple furnishings. The masculine Blue Lounge boasts golden doorways, Art Deco light fixtures, blue walls and velvet sofas in royal purple and crimson.
Description:
The g's design director is renowned milliner, Philip Treacy, a native of Galway, and his special touch is evident everywhere from the bespoke concierge wall to the artwork in every room. The emphasis is on luxury and glamour, underlining the g’s commitment to a truly unique hotel experience.

The dark and intimate reception area sets the tone, with black glass walls acting as a frame for a tank of Connemara-bred seahorses and bespoke concierge wall, designed by Philip Treacy. Covered in white Venetian plaster and reminiscent of a seashell, this is a hint of the surprises to come.

The public areas of the g on the ground floor extends to over 18,000 square-foot, with 3 individually styled and themed lounges and a restaurant, all linked by a raspberry carpeted corridor. The impression is of walking through a particularly glamorous dolls house, with golden doorways framing the entrance to each room.

From the exquisite Grand Salon to the distinctively pink Pink Salon and more masculine Blue Lounge, the g offers a stunning environment in which to meet and relax.

The g hotel, Galway’s only truly world-class hotel, offers six impressive occasion suites for meetings or private entertaining:
- Event suite with private break-out area catering for up to 100 people
- The Boardroom designed to facilitate meetings of up to 20 people and boasts the Sky Lounge for relaxing between sessions
- 4 smaller event rooms for syndicate style meetings

The g also offers exclusive use of theatres 1 and 7 in the award-winning and adjoining Eye Cinema complex, catering for groups from 40 to 150.

All event suites offer the latest technology, coupled with unobtrusive service, and create a unique and sophisticated environment.

Working closely with architects and designers Douglas Wallace, the spa’s design reflects a relaxed timelessness of contemporary elegance. Stone, wood, linen and glass are used in complementary new ways with subtle, warm colours. Mood enhancing lighting is used to calm and comfort, creating a sense of spiritual retreat.

Spa details:
- 8 treatment rooms
- 4 beauty suites
- Separate male and female changing rooms
- Crystal steam room
- Lifestyle shower
- Rain shower
- Rock sauna
- Ice fountain
- Tepidariums – heated loungers
- Vitality pool with soothing and therapeutic views of the water wall feature
- Relaxation room overlooking the Zen Garden
- Fitness centre

As a resident at the g, the use of the fitness centre is included in your room rate and for that extra bit of indulgence you may relax in the Thermal suite in ESPA for an additional cost.

The restaurant, Riva at the g, is set to become Galway’s most talked about restaurant, perfect for both guests and locals. Seating 70, it offers contemporary Italian cuisine with some international favourites added to cater for the many international travellers visiting the g. The g’s distinctive approach to design is carried through to the restaurant, with banquettes in purple velvet and jewel-coloured Andrew Martin chairs.

Serving bespoke ‘g hotel’ cocktails as well as more familiar favourites, the g’s Cocktail Bar is deliciously decadent. A carpet of thousands of red Swarovski crystals adorns the bar itself is a distinctive feature, and one that guarantees a glamorous start – or finish – to any evening.

The Place Bar is all geometric minimalism in white and black designed for late-night drinking and people watching. Its transient vibe is enhanced by red crystals in the marble floor and mirror panelled walls contributing a dash of downright glamour to the mix.

Everything about the hotel was great - especially the room. The decor is fabulous . However the dinner we spent a fair amount of money on was well below the standard I would expect - and we did complain about the turbot which was overcooked and we didnt eat - but there was no material response which is a bit much @ 27.5Euro eachSo I would recommend the hotel but NOT the restaurant.

Although the room was excellent, as was the general service, the hotel was 'cold' in terms of atmosphere........just not my taste. Also, the evening meal was extremely expensive for the fare on offer...I would certainly not eat there again, even should I choose to stay........quality of food was certainly OK, but the price was ridiculous (as was the price of drinks...10Euros for a small glass of Red House Wine.......no thanks!!!)

Staff were fantastic.room great. General decor outside of rooms modern but very dark and not to my taste.disappointed no swimming pool to speak of just a "thermal suite" and an extra e30 per person to use this-bad value

I absolutly loved it but was dissapointed with the dinner which is expensive and not great. I loved the spa suite and used it twice even though it cost€30 a go not including any therepies. I was the only one in it and thought it a pity that it wasnt included in the tariff. But all in all a must do experiance. The design by Philip Tracey is brilliant and I will recommend it to all my friends.

It was our first visit to the G Hotel and we really enjoyed it as a couple, I don't think I would use if for a family visit. The staff were excellent and very attentive and I look forward to another visit soon.

The hotel was a fantastic experience from the moment we arrived. The staff were friendly and helpful without being intrusive and the card and chocolates left in our room for our anniversary was a lovely personal touch!! I think a night or two at the G is a must for all Galway visitors!!

It is difficult to fault this hotel on any point athough you have to call for (pricey) coffee as in most 5 star establishments. The walk into Galway City is 15-20 mins at a good pace so a problem if it is raining hard..( it usually is either about to rain or has just stopped in Galway!). You can park out the back of the hotel in the shopping area (Atlantic Homecare, Currys etc) if you dont want the Conceirge to make off with your car into the vaults of the hotel. Overall probably the best all round rating of any hotel we have stayed in. If you like slightly eccentric modern luxury..this is for you. We didnt try the dining in the evenings as there are some reaally good places to eat (try Mcdonaghs fish resteraunt but get there at 5pm or queue for hours) but the breakfast was 100 %+

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel in the last year. It is easy to get to and parking is convenient (in car park under hotel with lift access to hotel) or there is valet parking. Rooms are comfortable and furnishings and decor give a light, airy feel. Heating/airconditioning is adjustable and quiet. Windows are large but rooms are private and quiet because of inaccessible (I think)pebbled 'balcony' outside, edged with plants (bamboo?) which screen rooms from other buildings and road (this applied to both rooms I was in, I don't know if it applies to all rooms).Room would have scored 6 last time, this visit it was almost 6 - just a couple of tiny details needed attention (information and menus missing , for example). I like the fact that breakfast and internet access are included in the price and a bottle of water and cakes were left in the room, instead of lots of extras added to the bill. But a kettle in the room would be a bonus - room service was good but I don't want to have to phone and wait every time I want a cup of tea.I love the decor of the corridors and the variety of it in the public rooms, so you can choose a lounge or bar that suits you. Light meals served all day in the lounge were excellent. Staff are very helpful.

Had a great room overlooking lough but other rooms face Toys are Us in middle of retail park. Signposting not great as G sign not that visible side on. Great decor, lovely staff and really friendly young atmosphere. Nothing was a bother! Would really recommend as a chill out location...or for a romantic few days away. Spa great.

The whole ambience of the hotel was superb. The staff were exceptional, they gave a real genuine warm welcome and an overall feeling that nothing was too much trouble. It was an absolute pleasure to experience true 5* service which isn't always the case in many high class hotels these days!Well done the G!

Wow, what can I say about this hotel. It's amazing. Not for children though, but great for a romantic, relaxing break. The staff are fantastic and nothing is a problem. The spa is a great place to relax and unwind. If you log onto the hotel website you can print of the directions as the hotel is hard to find. It's about 1.5 miles from the city centre, the walk in is nice on a lovely day but would advise a bus or taxi back to the hotel.
