Originally built in 1867, this charming town house has been tastefully renovated in a modern style, whilst retaining its historic charm, with stained glass windows and high coved ceilings.

Once used as a Christian Brothers house, Scholars now provides all the facilities and features of modern accommodation. It occupies a privileged position in the centre of the historic town of Drogheda, County Louth, only 20 minutes from Dublin airport via the nearby M1 motorway.

Local tourist attractions vary from an array of links golf courses and freshwater fishing to famous historic sites as Newgrange, the Hill of Tara, Slane Castle, Millmount Tower and the Battle of the Boyne.

Founded by the Norse in 911, Drogheda became one of their most important strongholds in Ireland, so much so that the town played host to Parliaments in the Middle Ages. The town's more recent historic attributes are connected Oliver Cromwell in the 1680's, the Battle of the Boyne and subsequent surrender to King William.

The medieval architecture in the town still remains prominent today. Churches, towers, abbeys and forts dating back to 800 years are closely situated.

In the surrounding countryside of the Boyne Valley the history is even more extraordinary. Visit the Stone Age architecture of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth. These famous ancient burial chambers are older than the pyramids of Egypt and are the embodiment of a lost era in Irish history.

Scholars Restaurant is a Michelin recommended 60 seat capacity, fine dining experience for every occasion, with a private room facility for conference and exclusive dining. It has been decorated to the highest standards, offering a unique depiction of the history of the locality through the hand painted frescoes that adorn the ceilings along with the plasterwork on the walls depicting the famous Battle of the Boyne.

The restaurant is complimented by Scholars Bar. Quiet and relaxed, it makes the perfect setting to enjoy a pre-dinner apertif.
