My boyfriend and I stayed at the Riu from Aug 28th -Sept 12th. We arrrived right along with Tropical Storm Gustuv, Thursday and Friday were a complete wash out, heavy winds and rain. I must commend the Riu, they made all guest feel at ease, after dinner they gave us bags of food to take in our room for the night, just incase we could not come out due to the storm. As Saturday came the sun was out and the island was beautiful, we spent the day on the beach soaking up the sun..the beach is beautiful and kept very clean. The hotel as a whole is lovely, we stayed in a oceanview room..it was perfect, with the fully stocked fridge and bar. The food was great, I really enjoyed the variety, we only ate at St.Anns buffet..other options are available. The entertaiment staff was great, they really work hard to keep the guest busy. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, you will love it.

we were a young black m/f couple going to jamaica for the first time and made a great decision with this resort. Food was good for the most part, the resort was nice and huge. We ate and drank all day with no problems. anytime we wanted a full meal or something to drink (alcohol or not) it was there and fresh. Make sure you have on the proper amount of sun screen no matter who you are!!! if you can afford your own snorkal eq. bring that too. they provide eq for you but it my not be the cleanest thing. the beach is wounderful and the local were no problem at all. for couples wanting to get freaky, there will be kids on the resort so for any "free spirited" nudeness you may want to go somewhere else.

Amazingly beautiful property! I would totally recommend to anyone. Unfortunately, we were there during hurricane Gustav so our room was flooded and the staff wasn't too prepared for the weather but we still enjoyed ourselves. The only complain I had was that the staff was not that available to our needs. Don't even try to call the front desk, they are not helpful at all. Overall though, beautiful place, pool was awesome, beach was great, drinks were amazing, and we had a great time!

Very nice accomodations and the food was very good for mostly buffets. The specialty resurants Sir John and Mammalee Bay were excellent. Down side was everybody asking for tips at the water activities shack. (None of the hotel staff asked for tips) Hotel was clean but is very large with 2 excellent pools and a very nice beach.

Upon our arrival the bus was waiting, we had a very friendly driver who drove us to the hotel in about 1hr and 30 minutes with a stop for some local food. Unfortunately our check-in was not smooth because the stuff neglected to advice us of the procedure of making reservations for the other restaurants a day before. We arrived on the 24th and planned a dinner on our anniversary on the 25th. To our surprise we had no dinner reservation for our anniversary when we brought this to the attention of the hotel we were told by one of the supervisors there was nothing they could do for us. My wife got very upset and wanted to leave since the sole purpose there was for that night. After we requested to speak with someone in charge they made reservation at the Steak House for us. Hurricane Gustav also messed up 2 of our vacation days but I liked the beach area of the hotel. Food is abundant but very tasteless.

We went for my sister 50th birthday as our family vacation. We love the hotel and the rooms were very beautiful. I am a native Jamaican and love to visit the different hotel in Jamaica but the Riu in Ochos Rios was not one for the best food served and entertainment needs improvement. First the food was all right but not the true West Inidia food you are expecting to get when you visit the island. No theme night for different kind of food, any beach party or dinner on the beach that is what make going to the island different and fun. All the food was not really gear toward childrenn not much of a choice for little ones. It was very hard to find things for my eight year old son to eat. Not a kids friendly food served, sure they had pizza and spaghetti but was not the best looking pizza to eat. We make reservation to Sir John for my sisters birthday which she really enjoyed but again the menu was not for little ones to enjoy. The service and waiter were excellent at the Sir John resturant. Now for the entertainment part at the hotel was not one of the best. They need to improve the nightly things to do. My seventeen son was even disappointed regard the nightly entertaiment not anything to do in the evening. They need more calypso music on and off the beach. It would be nice to hear calypso playing in the lobby after all you are in the island. Again have a beach party function in the night and enjoy your visit in the island. The hotel setting is beautiful but not the food and entertainment part.

Over all the experience was quite pleasant, the hotel was fairly new, room was huge and comfortable, housekeeping was up to par and staff very friendly. One thing though...the food need some creativity, in that the food is too bland, thay need to introduce more jamaican food on the menu,,,especially for breakfast..that really needs to be loked at.

We stayed at this resort for 5 nights /6 days and LOVED just about everything about it! The staff were super friendly and even took the time to learn our names! There were (10) of us in the group and no one had any major complaints! The food (St. Ann buffet) was good just about every night (differet themes) but the specialty restaurants book up too fast! The beach is absolutely BEAUTIFUL and the pools were awesome as well! The activities available were endless and not very expensive! The opportunities for FUN were endless! We had a bit of a mosquito problem in our room but it wasn't enough to ruin our good time! This was my second stay at a Riu resort (stayed in Cancun in '07) and I think I'm quite addicted to Riu now :o) I'd go back to Club Hotel Ocho Rios in a hearbeat! A+++++

This resort was absolutely beautiful. The rooms were nicely decorated & very comfortable offering all the comforts of home. The mosquitos were a nightmare. Pack plenty of bug spray!! I think the mosquitos were worse in the room rather than outside. The pools were clean and very refreshing. I coud lay on the beach all day because there were no beggers bothering us. Security did a good job keeping them away. All of the staff was very pleasant. The food was delicious (especially the Jerk Hut & the Steakhouse) & the drinks kept flowing until we passed out. We found the sportsbar awesome since they were open 24 hours. The nightclub was just ok basically because the music is geared towards the 20 something crowd. Overall I found this to be a great place & will definitely visit again real soon.

I am very unhappy with this hotel chain. There was no food available for late check in customers. There was a lack of cribs and clean highchairs. The staff was not very friendly either. Most of the staff had an attitude problem and never seemed to smile at all. The beach sand was in poor condition with lots of rocks and trash in the water and on the beach. In the past have visted RIU in Cancun, Mexico and the beach was wonderfull and hotel staff was very friendly. I don't know what happened to this Hotel in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. The RIU customer service is not very customer service friendly either. After returning from vacation I attempted to call RIU and tell them my opinon however the service representative that answered the phone hung up on me. The only thing good about this hotel was the food. The food was prepared very good but that was it.

The check in was very simple. The room was clen and spacious, large closets, spacious bathroom. Refrigerator was well stocked with water and drinks. Room was always cleaned by noon. The variety of food was excellent; meals were very tasty! Staff was very attentive. The grounds were immaculate and beautiful. The beach was clean and the palm trees offered a lovely shade when you wanted to get out of the sun. Close to shopping and other site seeing venues.

no wash cloths for two day and the bed was very hard. This trip was a honeymoon and I ask the hotel to acknowledg the wedding couple, and no response, other than that the trip was ok.

The staff was great, always friendly and helpful. The staff should be commended. The facilities and food were very good. We upgraded to a room that included access to the speciality restaruants for dinner, but honestly the main buffet/restaraunt was so good that you should not feel like you are missing much if you don't do this. The buffet is huge, with a theme that changes nightly. The other restaraunts require you to line up at 5 pm to get a reservation (for the following night) and that's a pain. Other minor complaints... we like coffee first thing (before breakfast) and it was a long walk to bring back coffee in little foam cups. Morning coffee stations scattered around and bigger cups (or in-room coffee) would be nice. The only beer was Red Stripe, and my preference is hoppy IPAs... but you know, the Red Stripe kinda grew on me. Going into town was a short but pricey cab ride, and the numerous offers for side trips were really overpriced, so if you want to spend a lot of time going places and seeing things then the all-inclusive (RIU is outside of town) is probably not the way to go, but it's great for being lazy and pampered and having fun doing little.

Riu Ocho Rios was a beautiful hotel with a nice beach. The food was ok, but became boring after several days of eating at the same places. One criticism of the hotel is that you have to wait in line for up to an hour every evening to make reservations for "specialty" restaurants. Don't be fooled, these restaurants are only special in that tbey serve only steak, sushi, or other Asian-style cuisine. They are still buffet style. The rooms are spacious and the beds are comfortable. At 1 a.m the music was still so loud that it sounded as if there was a band on our balcony. The staff did nothing to help and refused to move us. Eventually the cops came and shut the party down. There are lots of activities for adults and children througout the day such as beach aerobics and bands playing at the pool. The activites go late into he evening. Don't miss the Jerk Chicken at the Jerk Hut on the beach. It is quite yummy. Red Stripe beer is abundant.

This was our first time in Jamaica and it was FABULOUS! The food was pretty good at the Riu and the staff was absolutely fantastic. We really enjoyed all the entertainment and the all inclusive aspect! The only one thing we would have liked....is that the night life would have went a little later...but it was all GREAT!!!! The rooms were very spaceous and the view was spectacular! We will be back... hopefully soon!!!

I'm not usually one for all inclusives. But the Riu changed my mind. If you are not expecting top shelf liquor and filet mignon grilled to perfection, you will truly enjoy what the Riu you has to offer. Food was good. Staff friendly and helpful and the beach is the best place to spend a lazy and or active day. Loved it can't wait to return.

Our stay at Riu Ocho Rios was wonderful from the very beginning...While checking in we were offered drinks and our luggage was delivered to our room, thankfully the restaurants were open pretty late, so we were able to grab a bite after the long trip. The beach is very well kept and there is plenty of enterntainment and games for any age...During evenings there were different shows and the bar was GREAT! The bartenders were very friendly and remembered our drinks, so we barely ever had to wait more than a moment :) Overall, the trip was very lovely and we would definitely go back any time!

We stayed ther for 5 days. We had a suite and the room size was great. We had a king sized bed and a sunken living are with a sofa, cocktail table, dresser and a television. There was a mini bar in the room that they refilled every 2 days and if you ran out of something sooner all it took was a phone call to the front dsk and you got it. The hotel was very clean. The resort offered several different dinig choices and the breakfast was better than we could have ever expected. The hotel did have hot water issues for a day and a half. That was no fun, but the beaches and the service made up for it!! The pool was cleaned every night to ensure that you had a nice play for the family to play. If you are a drinker there are several different bars and even a night club. We enjoyed all of the amenaties. We LOVED the jerk stand on the beach, it was great for a quick lunch and then back to the ocean. Overall Fantastic experience and we might make it a yearly vacation spot!!!
