Next year a new 4.5 star hotel will be constructed and Rex Hotel will become a part of a one of the most luxurious accommodation facilities in Canberra, with the offer of total 311 suites, new restaurants, brasserie and two bars. Overall I thought the hotel was OK - very convenient. Two complaints though - they need to do something about the fact that steam from the showers sets off the smoke alarms - we evacuated at about 3am (not happy), because someone left the bathroom door open when they had a shower. Also, I booked well in advance and when I arrived they told me the type of room I had asked for was fully booked.

We were disappointed with room facilities, hot water was never hot, always had cold showers over two days. Only one blanket for queen bed ( winter booking )Curtains kept coming off the track. When we mentioned on check out there was no hot water, we were told by unconcerned staff that you have to run a full bath of cold water before shower allows hot water through !! What a waste ! We couldn't believe it. Over all, we would not recommend to anyone . Thank you

TV movie channel sound and picture were very poor. A tired feel to the hotel. Cheap, so good value, and the staff were very helpful, trying to make the experience as good as possible with worn-out tools.

Whilst the lobby and dining areas are quite modern, the rooms and the accommodation areas look quite dated and need modernising.....they appear very tired looking. The ensuite is below standard with shower over the bath, and pull curtain only.

Enjoyed our stay here, able to walk to the city mall just a few blocks away. Nice breakfast included. the room we had was not huge, but substantial and very clean. Great to have two movie channels to choose from. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

The Canberra Rex is a 3.5* hotel and the facilities fit that rating. The king room which I stayed in was recently renovated, it was clean, however a bit small, but ok for 1 person. The staff were friendly and the restaurant food was nice. I did, however, order room service and they forgot cutlery. The location is ok, near a lot of housing commission units, so I wouldn't go out walking at night. 5-10 min taxi ride to the city centre. The air conditioning in the room is not able to be controlled within the room, which was a little disappointing considering it got a bit cool during the night. If you like a cold shower, there was little to no hot water in the morning - evening showers were fine. It's definitely not the Novotel, but it was an ok stay.

We were very happy with the Canberra Red Hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was lovely in the restaurant and good value. Location was just a short bus ride from the city area and the buses were an easy way to navigate around Canberra to see the sights (War Museum, Australia Mint etc).

It is not a very safe place to park your car, do not leave any valuables in your car or it will be broken into, a side effect of being next door to the Braddon housing commission flats. Every morning the car park has the remains of broken windows strewn across it. Don't ;eave anything of value in your car and you should be fine.

Dirty windows,burnt bible on ugly roof outside dirty windows.Unsatisfactory shower head even considering water resrictions.Dated hotel needing complete revamp but it's "cheapish",you get what you pay for.

Room renovations continue, and staff are friendly as always. I commend the front desk staff for their attention to my complaints at the start of this visit: no towels, and the fridge was dead. Kane left the front desk (while another person attended reception) and brought me towels immediately. Next day he reminded those at reception to do something about the fridge -- I received a brand new one. Another gentleman whose name I don't know (tall, dark suit) was very concerned that I was satisfied. And the dining room staff (especially Mathieu) were welcoming and helpful. So that was good. However, room windows and window frames are always very dirty here. I reminded staff that when they finish room renovations it is important to wipe down the window frames to remove loose mortar, dust, etc., but that complaint has fallen on deaf ears my past three visits. Ah well: the location is very convenient and the price is the best in town. Hope springs eternal!

Airconditioning in room was pathetic. 32 deg C and not able to adjust. Reception claimed that it was old system and copuld not be adjusted. They loaned me a fan! Had to run hot water in shower for 5 minutes before hot water came through, and then it was too hot! What a waste! Would not recommend, and will definitely not stay there again!

Even though there is internet access downstairs in foyer, would be great if had access for laptops in rooms
