Travelled with my two teenage boys to Arras via train from Brussels on June 30th 08 for a one night stay at the Moderne Hotel. This was our first stop of many through northern France. We were on a week long trip visiting numerous Canadian war memorial sites. The town is a good stopover as it is close to Vimy Ridge (20 euro taxi ride). The hotel is very well located, as it is across the street from the railway station. The room was a little less than what I had hoped for. As it was on the top floor, the long exterior wall is really the sloped roof. With the three of us being tall, it made it difficult to move about the beds. We did receive three separate beds as per our request. The room was somewhat dated and very basic but the beds seemed decent and clean. Sunrise at 6am was superb by looking out the small window in the wall/roof. The breakfast(extra$) was of average selection, but they were very slow to restock the cheese and meat trays. The staff seemed alright and offered to hold our bags in the storage room after checkout, until our return late in the afternoon. I would check out the other hotels close by, but would also stay there again if need be. Was a little pricey for the accommodations relative to the other hotels.

Friendly staff (fluent english), clean, central location. Unfortunately we missed the breakfast. The rooms on the stree side can be very hot im summer.

Stayed 4 nights in Arras to visit a relations grave, the Moderna was quite central for our requirements and Arras was above our expectations and we will return

Nice little hotel for the money. There was ample parking in the area, just had to pay for a few hours in the morning before we headed out for the day...couple of euros. The room was large enough, nice tall ceilings. However, no closets, and little storage space, so pack light! The only weird thing that bugged me, was that there was no shower curtain! Bathroom was modern other than that. Had to put towels down everywhere to keep the floor dry, weird!

This was an excellent hotel to stay at. The owner or manager could not have been more helpful and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it to all.

We needed a room for three adults near the train station, and that's exactly what we got. It was neat and clean and very spacious as well.

A perfectly reasonable hotel in a pretty little town. Easy to get to from Calais, and easy to find in Arras (directly opposite the railway station). The internet prices were slightly higher than those quoted at the hotel. The prices did not include breakfast. The price was fine for a hotel in high season -worked out at about £40 per head per night. Good for a weekend break.

The hotel is very central and convenient for the town centre. We were disappointed that when we went down for the buffet breakfast there was nothing left and no-one to ask so we went elsewhere for our breakfast. Otherwise we had a good stay.

Great location, easy to walk into town centre! Easy parking near by hotel and visible from restuarant/bar area. Rooms a little noisy at night from train and road.

Good hotel, clean and friendly, although could be a bit noisy as on a main through road. The only negative aspect was the fact that we booked a triple room, but this turned out to be a double room with an additional temporary fold-up bed. This meant it was rather cramped in the room and one person did not have as comfortable a bed as the other two. I think this fact should have been stated when booking.

Ideal hotel for a stopover on the way south. Handy for bars / restaurants and the centre of Arras. Directly opposite the station for trains to Paris, etc. Nice clean rooms with helpful staff. On a busy square but double glazing minimises noise.

The noise level was very high (traffic, people, trains), and I couldn't sleep, which was a same as the reason for staying was a good night's sleep on a long journey with 3 children. The breakfast was poor and the rooms shabby. I didn't get a price for the rooms in advance, so only found out what I was going to pay when I got the bill! Booking was easy, but I wouldn't stay there again. Have stayed in plenty of other French hotels (chains & pensions) and this was not good value for money.

Newly decorated when we stayed there in early May 2002, the hotel was comfortable clean and the staff very helpful - reception staff were more than happy to book our next hotel for us (our grasp of the French language being limited).
