Description:Just along the waterfront from St Mark's Square, where the Grand Canal meets the Lagoon, let your gondola glide to the landing stage of the wonderful Metropole Hotel. On the site of an orphanage church where Vivaldi once composed and performed, stands this beautiful, baroque hotel replete with gilded chandeliers, clocks, mirrors and bronze cherubs. A friendly, family-run hotel, the Metropole is like a museum of rare artefacts, boasting an eclectic collection of musical instruments, fans, corkscrews and Italy's largest collection of crucifixes.
Overview:
Overlooking the lagoon from a privileged position, Hotel Metropole offers luxurious accommodations, utmost comfort and an enchanting atmosphere, just a short stroll from Saint Mark’s Square.

Welcoming and intimate, the hotel is comparable to a small museum. lt boasts an eclectic collection of rare visiting card cases, antique fans and art objects. Distinguished by its personality and history, Hotel Metropole occupies a fascinating Venetian palace where great names of the past such as Freud, Marcel Proust, Thomas Mann and Vivaldi, have once stayed. The hotel is also preferred by contemporary celebrities such as Lou Reed, Annie Lennox and Grace Jones.

Hotel Metropole is set in the historic centre of Venice, within easy reach of the most important attractions in this unforgettable city. Its strategic location allows you to discover the wonders of Venice by leisurely exploring its charming streets and canals.
Rooms:
While no two rooms of Hotel Metropole are the same, all feature period furnishings, fascinating collector’s items and a carefully designed ambiance. A variety of styles is found in different room types, always with a refined and welcoming atmosphere.

Classic Double/Twin Room - Please, specify your bedding preference.

Furnished in a classic style, classic double rooms are intimate, comfortable and welcoming. Interiors are adorned with precious velvets and period furniture, enriched by antique fans from the hotel's private collection. These rooms overlook the hotel's internal garden, the canal, or the characteristic Calle della Pietà.

Bathrooms are mosaic-tiled or finished in fine marble. Courtesy Gilchrist & Soames toiletries are available.

Junior Suite - Junior suites are spacious and decorated with original period furniture and antique paintings, prints, and fans. Typical red and bronze Venetian fabrics made by Bevilacqua decorate the walls, which makes the atmosphere extremely warm and welcoming.

These rooms boast a sitting area, with comfortable table and divan or comfortable armchairs, with a spectacular view of the lagoon, the canal or the internal garden.

Courtesy Gilchrist & Soames toiletries are available.

Suite Garden View - All different, though all of them decorated with original period furniture as well as with numerous antiques, valuable silks and Venetian velvets.
These rooms boast a nice sitting area, with coffee table and divan or comfortable armchairs, with a spectacular view of the lagoon, the canal or the internal garden.

Courtesy Gilchrist & Soames toiletries are available.

Exclusive Suite Lagoon View - These are the most fabulous rooms in the hotel: elegant and sophisticated, they have truly unique features and a warm atmosphere. Each of these rooms was given a different name that underlines their specific character, their leit motiv, their soul.

The Damasco Suite features stunning mosaics in hammam style, summoning an Eastern atmosphere. The sitting room is endowed with a marvellous mosaic bath.

The Suite Dei Nobili is a brightly-lit suite with a fascinating golden colour that spreads over its
furnishings and decorations. An antique portrait of two noblemen gives the room its name.

The Porta d’Oro Suite shows an attractive contrast of warm colours that grants a special, refined atmosphere. Giving the suite its name, the dominant feature is a 17th-century golden door separating the sleeping area from the lounge. Three large windows overlooking the lagoon illuminate the room and offer an unforgettable view.

Bathrooms are decorated with mosaics in mother pearl and are provided with every comfort including a superior set of toiletries, soft bathrobes and slippers.

Quadruple Room -

Deluxe Double/Twin Room Lagoon View - Please, specify your bedding preference.

Classic Double Room for Single Use - All rooms are decorated with period prints or fans from the hotel's private collection, elegant Venetian fabrics and authentic period furniture. They have pleasant views over the hotel's internal courtyard garden or the canal.

Deluxe Double/Twin Room - Consistent with the Metropole style, each Deluxe Double Room is unique in its décor and ambiance. These rooms are tastefully decorated with superior fabrics and fitted with antiques from the hotel's own private collection. Renaissance and Belle Époque canopies are featured, as well as pieces in 20th century styles including Art Deco, 1960’s design and Bianco design.

Deluxe Double Rooms feature spectacular views of the hotel's internal courtyard garden or the side canal.

The spacious and elegant bathrooms, decorated with precious marble or Bisazza mosaic tiles, boast spacious showers or bathtubs. They offer superior comfort, with soft sponges, hair-dryer and complimentary Gilchrist & Soames toiletries.

Family Room - These rooms are very spacious (between 25m² and 30m²) and comfortable. Overlooking the side canal, each has large bed and two single beds. Suitable for families, they can be fitted with a cradle with pillow and soft linen. Baby-sitting services and toys are available on request.

In addition to the facilities listed, this accommodation is equipped with internet direct access.

In the bathroom you will find a hair dryer and complimentary toiletries.

Junior Suite Lagoon View - Junior suites are spacious, impressive rooms endowed with a sitting area fitted with coffee table and sofa or armchair. Each one of the rooms is unique in its décor, featuring antique furniture and objects from the hotel’s private collection.

Some of the junior suites have beautiful, furnished private terraces overlooking the rooftops of Venice. The spacious bathrooms are decorated with marble and offer superior comfort with soft bathrobes, slippers, courtesy toiletries, special bath salts, scented incenses and a Murano glass vase with cotton pads.

Exclusive Suite Canal View - These rooms feature large windows with views of Canale della Pietà, where at times you can see gondolas on their way to the lagoon.

The Suite Desiderio is a jewel of classic aristocratic elegance.

The Suite Gli Angeli has a gloriously theatrical decor, a match for anything Hollywood can offer.

The Queen Anne Suite, the most romantic and most Venetian in style, is inspired by the bedchambers of the past - such as the great seducer Casanova would have loved.

Bathrooms are in Carrara, Verona and pink Portuguese marble. They offer superior comfort, with complimentary toiletries, soft bathrobes and slippers.

I stay at many of this chain's hotels including the Albani in Florence (annually), this hotel is different, very ornamental designer public areas. If you go to Venice for the first time and want Venice art surroundings then stay somewhere else, if you want an over the top experience then stay here, the food is fantastic but you should make the reservations before you arrive. My son was with me and he classified the "overly decorated hallways - "like a visit to the castel of Count Dragula" -- at least in his imagination. My room was quiet, spacious for Venice -smallish bathroom - well designed and a very comfortable bed, luxury linens. The breakfast is very good and the service is superior - tue Italian hospitality and helpfulness.

The Metropole is the best. It is quirky and luxurious. The service is top notch and almost invisible. We stayed in a junior suite and it was very roomy. It was the best bed we had in all of Italy. I loved the room so much, I had to force myself to get out and explore Venice. I would have been content to lounge in the room! It is a bit pricey, but so is everything else in Venice. We felt it was worth the money.

great location, easy walking distance to everything, room checked twice daily and towels/linen changed daily! Very old fashioned but also unique and beautiful even for us who like contemporary. Amazing to observe staff ironing table cloths on tables for evening meals. Had quiet room at back overlooking garden as requested. Antique furniture mightn't suit everyone and bathroom lighting not great but we've yet to stay in a hotel which had satisfactory bathroom lighting. Arsenale bus stop 2 minutes away for 12 Euro airport connection. Don't eat in places overlooking lagoon-very expensive. Seek out back street restaurants where locals frequent and food is half the price and twice the quality.

The Metropole was a lovely hotel it was full of character and very impressive. It was very close to St Marc's square and amenities. The staff where very helpful and the breakfast was delicous in a wonderful breakfast room, it was ideal to start long day ahead. I would definately recommend friends and family to stay at the Metrople.

The bed was the most comfortable we have ever enjoyed away from home. We stayed 4 nights in Venice and look forward to returning. The lighting in the bedroom was dim to read by and there was only one, news, channel in English - plenty of German and no music which would have been an international option. Those are the only two"faults" I can think of. The breakfast was very fine. The staff were very good indeed.

Very conbinient from St.Marco Square. A little bit expensive, but location and atmosphare are really good. Outside of our room was narrow pathway, but sometimes we heard some noises in the night.

After a rough start to our trip (Avoid Air France, they are awful) we arrived via train in Venice. We followed the hotels directions and got on the vaparetto, better known as a cattle car,(DON'T DO THIS)and then walked about two blocks, luggage in tow, to the Metropole. The first comment from the desk clerk was to let us know that Venice is a special and expensive city and you have to spend money so you should always take a taxi. My suggestion to put this on their web site seemed funny to them. It was hard for us to find the humor. The mood changed when we got to our room. It was by far the largest we had seen in Italy with a bathroom to die for and a outside deck that overlooked the Harbor. It was a 10 plus. The breakfasts we outstanding with excellent and friendly service. Our only complaint was when the housekeeper left a window open and we returned that night to a small swarm of mosquito buzzing in the room. I would highly recommend this property to anyone.

15 days before arriving, I send an e-mail to ask the hotel to make a reservation at La Fenice. I got no answer whatsoever! And the service in the restaurant was too slow and the food didn't deserve a* au Michelin. It was our 5th time in Veniceand the last time! Too many groups!!!

internet access should be wireless all over the hotel, and should be free to guests. it IS in many other hotels in the US and europe

The hotel is slightly quirky - displays, candles etc but we loved it! Excellent location very close to San Marco and convenient for the waterbuses. Our room was at the top, with a terrace and a good view of the lagoon. Very good quality breakfast with very good service. We ate in the hotel once - it has a Michelin star and the food was excellent, reasonable prices and superb service. We also ate in Al Conte Pescaor near San Marco which was excellent.

what a wonderful hotel, we stayed for two days to celebrate my birthday everything was perfect, to walk out of the hotel with the lagoon in all it's glory was beautful. Friendly and helpful staff great breakfast with wide selection of excellent food. Wonderful garden a rarity in venice. Would recommend this hotel to anyone for a special occasion.

The hotel has a 19th C feel in the good sense and you should mention the fabulous collection of antique objets in the etageres throughout. Also the hotel has its own water landing for taxis. The interior garden restaurant-cafe is a quiet spot for lunch.

Upon check in, we were provided a room which was nothing like photos portrayed on the site. The room was so small, you had to thread on narrow paths to get from the bed to the washroom. We later highlighted this point and with no questions asked, we were provided a much bigger room. It wasn't perfect but we felt it matched the price we were paying for. Generally, the hotel is alright but if they operate on the principle of assigning small rooms till the guests complains, then the policy should be relooked into. For us, it set a negative impression from start and we will likely not return to it. The receptionist had also recommended we hop on the daily and hourly complimentary boat ride to Murano Island to visit the Glass factory. We waited a few times but gave up as it was late several times. Finally we decided to wait for it one day and the receptionist finally mentions that its only upon request and they were not requesting for any that day. AHH! We decided not to bother anymore as information seemed to be misleading again.

We had a wonderful stay with you and I would definitely return to yur hotel. The staff were fantastic and despite my lack of spoken Italian, everyone was most kind and understanding. I want to learn Italian now!! The room was out of this world. I could not believe it when I walked in with all the cherubs!! I couldn't stop laughing. The bathroom was beautiful. All in all a perfect location and hotel.

The hotel has a beautiful garden area to have drinks at. I did not like the hotel rooms. The rooms are old antiqueish looking rooms, this just is not my style. However, having said that the bed was comfortable and the bathrooms were very clean. The breakfast was good. I wish I had tried the restaurant because the menu looked delicious. They offer a shuttle to the island of Murano which is great.
