Le Mas de la Chapelle Hotel Arles [edit info]
Petite Route De Tarascon
Arles, France
Description:The Mas de La Chapelle was once a Priory of the Order of Knights of Malta, a semi-religious and military community formed in the Middle Ages to ensure the transportation and safety of pilgrims travelling from Europe to the Holy Land. The Mas de la Chapelle was built in the 16th century on a small hill in the Arlesian countryside. The Mas de La Chapelle has always been a busy inn (bégaude in Provençal) as Arles was one of the four starting points for the Camino françese route of the Pilgrims of Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. This fact is corroborated by the name given to the farm of the domain: La Coquille ("The Shell"), the symbol of these Pilgrims.
Amenities:Room Service, High-speed Internet, Parking, Swimming pool, Pets Allowed, Concierge, Bar / Lounge, Air Conditioned, Non-Smoking Rooms, Tennis Courts, Housekeeping, Banquet Facilities, Currency Exchange, Multilingual Staff, Mini Bar, Refrigerator, Cable / Satellite TV, Meeting Rooms, Hair Dryer, Complimentary Toiletries, Modem / Data Port, TV
Description:
Le Mas de la Chapelle is a converted sixteenth century chapel and farmhouse, originally a priory used by Pilgrims of Saint- Jacques de Compostelle as a starting place for their journey. It lies four kilometers from the town of Arles. The 15 guestrooms are decorated in individual themes, using traditional Provençal influences. All are air-conditioned and have separate sitting areas, bathrooms with complementary toiletries, satellite television, and direct-dial telephones.
Guests can enjoy the outdoor swimming pool with patio and poolside bar and the children's wading pool, or play tennis on one of the two courts. The three hectare grounds lead to hiking and biking trails and the Rhone, popular with runners, walkers and mountain bikers. The sixteenth century chapel has now been converted into an exhibition and concert space, regularly displaying the work of local artists. Guests can plan a day's sightseeing using the dial-up Internet connections, while multilingual staff can advise on the best local attractions to visit. Arles, four kilometers from the hotel is home to many such attractions including the terraces of Place du Forum, churches, museums and the old theater which dates back to the first century BC. The Camargue, with its historic villages, wild horses and wild flamingos is 15 kilometers away and the town of Avignon is 32 kilometers away, where guests can visit the famous bridge, castle and market square. Nimes Garons Airport (FNI) is 22 kilometers from the hotel. The best way to make the trip to the hotel from the airport is by taxi.

The house and garden were beautiful, but the owners gave the impression that they were not really interested in running a hotel. The whole experience is wildly overpriced.

Beautiful location and premises, a little farther from town (Arles) than we thought and we found it difficult to negotiate narrow roads with our limited American driving skills, but convenient to other nearby towns and th Camargue. Room and bath were spacious and had good closet space. Dominique was very knowledgable and helped us with maps, directions, and restaurant suggestions that were right on the money. Electrical work could use an update. There were extension cords running across floors and under furniture and carpets - potential fire hazard - and only one heat appliance (hair dryer or bathroom heater) could be plugged in at a time. Nonetheless, we would return in a minute - next time, in the summer!.

This was a beautiful place to stay. It was not close to town which was nice, so you would definitely need to have a car.

Very attractive and quality accommodation with a charming and relaxing accent. Located far enough away from Arles to feel like the real countryside and yet near enough to drive to in 5 min`s. A location to have some quality time, romantic and eclectic, I would love to return and laze away some summer days here!

Mas de la Chapelle is a very nice and quiete place. My wife and me were pleased of our stay there and enjoyed the nice garden and the swimming pool. We appreciate also the possibility to be independant within the hotel and the freedom granted to the client.

Rooms are lovely but the walls are thin, breakfast was a little too late for us at 9 but probably ideal if you are not on a weekend break and you have plenty of time on your hands.

A truly charming place just a little outside Arles, drive past the industrial zone north and after a narrow road you'll get there (a clear map is on their site http://www.masdelachapelle.fr . every room is different and special, tried the double comfort chambre indieene. Nice and relaxing garden and swimming pool, the main room just entering the Mas is awesome, if you love art and history it has surely charm for you.
