Description: La Selva is a 38 hectare property just 5 kilometers north of Siena in the tuscan countryside. First mentioned in Siena's official records in 1293, the valley at the center of la selva was a lake where etruscan anchors are still being uncovered. The "Granducato di Toscana" ordered the draining of the lake in the 1700's. And thus formed the plains of the estate which are outlined in lush forest. Now a stud farm for english race horses, the property offers furnished apartments in two restored 12th century farm houses.

My family and I had a relaxing three night stay had a relaxing three night stay at this deghtful property. The friendliness of the families running this farm stay was a bonus. Lovely homely touches appeared throughtout the apartment in which we stayed. Car transport is recommended to allow easy access to and from the property (bus services are not entirely convenient). Recommended.

We chose La Selva because we had rented a car and wanted somewhere out of town from Sienna. La Selva has an outdoor swimming pool which was especially nice on warm sunny days. The room we stayed in was nice, a comfortable bed and wonderful views. You are unable to use the horses on the farm, which we were disappointed about. However there is a riding school 5km from La Selva. Breakfast is great and wide variety. It was also available till 10:30am which was great for a lie-in. Staff were welcoming and helpful but spoke a little english. La Selva is about 10 minutes drive with free parking at night, but it is easy to get lost in Sienna!!

Great value for the price. We had a very spacious two storey apartment with great facilities. The pool is lovely with a nice view over the surrounding valley. Less than 5 minutes to Siena in a car - but I would recommend a car otherwise you are likely to be stuck there. Despite what your booking says - check whether breakfast is included before tucking in... the owner might have other ideas...

Warm, cosy room with fridge but it lacked a nice view of the surrounding area. Unfortunatley the restsaurant is only open Fri & Sat but a close by restaurant was recommended to us, unfortunately the spoke no English and the menu was in Italian. Would have liked to be given info on bikes etc but the young male hotelier who welcomed us was obviously keen to finish his shift. The woman was nice and made a restaurant booking for us.

We spent our first three nights at La Selva. Staying here requires a car but it is only a 15 minute ride to the historic district (Centrale). Breakfast was good ... adding cheese and salami would have made it excellent. The staff speaks little English but we were able to get everything we needed. This had the best shower of our three hotels with plenty of HOT water. Next time in Tuscany (and we hope there is a next time) - we'll stay on the horse farm in The Woods (La Selva) ... but not as woody as the name implies. Best place to visit while staying at La Selva ... Monteriggioni ... the ulitmate mini hilltown. Pace e Bene

I highly would recommend this location to whomever that would like to enjoy the "agriturism" experience at very affordable rates. The only drawback could be that no lunch or dinner meals are available. Therefore, this might not be the best location for people who would like to lock themselves in a location for relaxing. However, it is definetely the best location for people who, like I did, have plans to travel during the day and arrive to a quiet and relaxing property at the end of the day.

We had an excellent stay at La Selva (apartment for 2 persons/second week in august). The town center of Siena is easy of access (10 min) and the aera is really charming. Very calm and relaxing, nice pool, very friendly and good service. Very helpful: moskito-nets integrated to the windows. my overall rating: excellent
