We were really disappointed with this place. Its overpriced and just plain crap! The room was tiny and the bathroom looked like a housing commission bathroom with peeling paint and a window that had been stuck back together with masking tape! There is no airconditioning, and the facilities are very poor. There is a musty smell about the place - it reminded us of an old hospital inside. The whole place is falling apart and in dire need of maintenance. Very misleading compared to the photos on the website. Don't waste your time or money!!

Rooms are quite small. During winter there is a breeze coming in from the windows as their not sealed properly. The hotel did provide us with an extra heater which did help. But considering the location it was well worth it. Log fire in sitting area was fantastic, great views of the valley. The food is great but there isn't a great variety to choose from. Very overpriced for food. Other than that a great destination, great history to the hotel. Would stay there again.

Beautiful building. It was fantastic to be enveloped in the wonderful experience of another era but I would have frozen if I had lived in the mountains in the early 1900's. Improved heating in the bathrooms, corridors and dining room is very needed to make ones stay comfortable.

Unfortunately they were short staffed so check in took too long and we ordered pre-dinner drinks at 5.20 pm and by 5.50pm they still had not arrived so in the end we gave up. The service was slow in the restaurant. Once we were seated we waited a long time for them to come and take our order then they served a couple first who came in after us. This was early so the restaurant wasn't even busy at the time. Two lots of people who were passing through requested drinks so they could watch the sunset and were told only guests of the hotel could get drinks at that hour, otherwise they would have to wait until after five. Seems very short sighted for the Hotel not to offer some kind of sunset afternoon tea package. The rooms although small were very clean and the view superb.

We grabbed a cheap $105 p/night deal on hotelscombined.com, which gave a standard room facing the road. The room was nice and bright with a king bed but definetly not worth the $355 p/night normal rate!It is a very old place that has been done up. Also any room that faces the road has to deal with the train line directly across the road and trains come past every few hours all through the night and day so beware! My advice would be to pay a bit extra for the valley view which is definitely worth it not just for the view but also for the peice and quiet. Not many places to eat around the hotel, and breaky was not worth $18 you pay for it. go to Blackhealth or Katoomba lots of little cafes to eat at in the morning. Dinner was nice in the hotel but expensive as you'd expect, very nice staff around the hotel but a few of the reception staff need some customer servie skills. Overall I probably would go back there again, alot of other nice hotels around that were much nicer and alot cheaper.

Hotelclub got us a very good price for this hotel, and it blew everything else at that price point out of the water. The view (the main selling point) was amazing, and the food and room were much better than the equivalents.

The renovations to this grand old hotel are excellent and further renovations will enhance its facilties even further. The views are spectacular. The rooms (in the French Provincial style) were very comfortable, newly refurbished and clean. The only downside was at check in where it took 20 minutes for the reception clerk to figure out our hotelscombined.com booking. After the wait we were told that one of our rooms wasn't ready. Checking out took another 20 minutes with reception making 3 attempts to get the bill correct. There was no apology offered by staff for this inconvenience.

The soap holder and exhaust fan in the bathroom were broken and the room appointments were out of style with the hotel proper. The cooked breakfast was dreadful although there was a good selection of cereals and fruit. Based on the breakfast we were not prepared to dine in on a relatively expensive menu and expensive wine list. The place appeared to be run down and tired.

The hotel will be much more enjoyable as more restoration work is done. The views from our room was stunning.
