Description:"Set in an attractive bay, the hotel boasts a view of the historical and monumental heart of Agrigento, at the foot of which lies the enchanting Valley of temples. Ideal for both the businessman and the tourist, it has 102 rooms of which 2 are junior suites, furnished in an elegant and subdued colour. All the bedrooms have balconies from which to admire the view over the sea or inland and all have air-conditioning and soundproofing. To the highest level of comfort, the rooms offer modern technology with outgoing fax capability, automatic alarm and the use of personal computers on request. Enclosed between the wings of the hotel are a covered garden and an American bar to enliven guests evenings. Founded in 581 BC by colonists from neighbouring Gela who named it Akragas, it rapidly grew in economic, civil and military importance, so much so that in league with Syracuse it vanquished the Carthaginian army at Imera in 480 BC and scaled down its expansionist ambitions. From this era the most imposing and important architectural remains, which put the city on the same artistic level as the most important Greek cities. The city is divided into two areas the modern urban centre and the Valley of the Temples, the ancient sacred territory which today has become a focus of historical and architectural interest. Without doubt the most spectacular surviving trace of ancient Akragas is the temple of Concordia. Built towards the middle of the 5th century and dedicated to the Dioscuri, the construction stands out imposingly in an amazing state of preservation in comparison with the temples of Paestum, it stands like the figure of God before that of a giant noted Goethe during his journey of 1787. The temple of the Dioscuri and that of Juno date from the same period. Utell Superior Selection - Offers the traveller quality rooms and facilities making their stay, whether business or leisure, relaxing and comfortable.

Location Description:
Agrigento is one of Sicily's provincial capitals, located on the southern coast of the island, facing towards Africa. It keeps unspoilt the grace and fascination of a Mediterranean resort, a crossroads of different cultures:local, mainland Italian, Greek and North African. Founded in 581 BC by colonists from neighboring Gela who named it Akragas,it rapidly grew in economic, civil and military importance, so much so that in league with Syracuse it vanquished the Carthaginian army at Imera in 480 Bc and scaled down its expansionistic ambitions. From this era date the most imposing and important architectural remains, which put the city on the same artistic level as the most important Greek cities. The city is divided into two areas: the modern urban center and the "Valley of the Temples", the ancient sacred territory which today has become a focus of Historical and architectural interest.Of course the most spectacular surviving trace of ancient Akragas is the temple of Concordia which stands out imposingly in an amazing state of preservation; " In comparison with the temples of Paetum, it stands like the figure of a God before that of a giant", noted Goethe during his journey of 1787. The temple of Juno, Hercules and Dioscuri date from the same period. The modern part of Agrigento too preserves glories and remains of the past in a curious mixture of Arabic, Roman and Baroque architecture:St.Calogero's church; the Cathedral; the Abbey of the Holy Spirits and so on.

We think that because tour groups were checking in soon after we arrived the people at the front desk were not on their best behavior for us. They were not as warm as at the other hotels we had stayed. Also we had a storm come through which didn't allow us to take advantage of the surrounding area.

A hotel completely without charm- reminiscent of the Howard Johnson's motels my family and I stayed in on the road to Florida when I was a little kid in the 60's. The man at the front desk barely looked at us when we checked in, or when we checked out (same man, as we were there only for an overnight). Having a petrol station next to the parking lot for the hotel and across from the hotel was not something we expected either. The beach was dirty too. Uninspired breakfast. However, the room was spacious and clean and the air-conditioning worked and was appreciated.

A good choice for visiting Agrigento. Nice enough rooms. Excellent breakfasts, lots of restaurants in the small town. Nice ocean view, but the windows really need cleaning! We used our own Windex to good effect.

We stayed at the Dioscuri Palace in mid- October 2005. We were pleased we chose this hotel as our base for visiting the Valley of the Temples. It is well located in San Leone, close to a variety of good restaurants but distant enough in its own grounds to be quiet. The breakfast buffet was very good. We did not have dinner at the hotel since the restaurant is a little pricey and there are many alternatives close by. The staff were extremely friendly and competent. Parking is secure and very adequate and the hotel is a very short drive from the Temple site. There is no beach, as such, but the hotel is right on the water's edge and the swimming pool is great. We would certainly stay at the Dioscuri Palace again.

The pool is absolutely gorgeous!! The rooms are clairaudient. So it is quite noisy when the luggage boy is rolling his cart around. Especially in the morning, that is quite annoying.

Very good modern hotel. Beautiful sea view from the rooms. Excellent swimming pool by the sea. Own free spacious parking lot. Good price/quality ratio. Excellent location for visiting the Valley of Temples. Only remark is that there is no internet connection available for guests.

the female desk clerk was very un-friendly almost insulting, although the hotel was almost empty because it was still off season end of may, the hotel would not place us in a seaside room.

Large, warm, inviting room, and location on the beach was much better than staying in Agrigento (which is only minutes away). Walking distance to excellent restaurants.
