After many years of careful restoration, we believe that we have developed one of the most unique hotels to emerge onto the Irish market in recent times. The hotel combines remnants of the old Guinness Brewery, which was the original birthplace of Guinness. Original stonework has been combined with stylish contemporary design to produce a hotel that is unique in character and style. Guestrooms have been tastefully appointed with all guest needs catered for. Our Riverbank Restaurant caters for all tastes and budgets with particular emphasis being placed on local produce and traditional dishes. And who could forget about Arthur Guinness? My girlfriend and two of our close married friends choose to meet up and have a meal in the lower restaurant coming up to Christmas. We were all looking forward to our evening as we had not met up for a while and the restaurant was recommended - What a mistake!!. Despite having booked for 9pm three days in advance we were left waiting to be seated for 20 minutes, only to find a less than half full seated restaurant. The explanation was that the Kitchen was backed up!! We were offered a choice of table and took our seats. This table was not even set properly and the staff never even noticed that glasses and cutlery were not adequate. We complained and were treated to a 'smirk' by the staff member as if it had nothing to do with her and it was all to be treated as a joke!!! - It was pointed out that this was not a laughing matter Our waiter arrived to take our order and then told us that 2 of the 5 main courses on offer were off the menu, plus one of the starters. The menu was extremely limited. We complained and asked to speak to the manager. Our starters arrived, 2 of four were tepid to say the least. While clearing the table, the waiter dropped cutlery and salad on the floor, this was not cleaned up until I drew the attention of a member of staff to this, despite the fact that other staff had trampled over it bringing our main course. When the manager arrived we explained the course of events to which he replied that there was nothing he could do in relation to the menu. The lack of red wine glasses was pointed out to him - he did nothing. It took a further 10mins to obtain a proper red wine glass. The main courses were deserving of 2 out of 5 at a push. The wine was quite nice, in fact it was the only thing nice about the whole experience. Deserts and coffee were adequate though nothing extraordinary. Overall we left with a very bad taste in our mouths and a determination never to cross the front door again.
