To be visited: the ancient centre of the town with S.Sebastiano Basilica, the wonderful Piazza del Duomo and the Cathedral, SS. Pietro e Paolo church. Very closer to the city is the Riviera of the Lemons with its typical Sicilian fishing villages S.Maria La Scala, S.Tecla, Pozzillo and Stazzo. Acireale is also famous for its Carnival, the best one in Sicily, which takes place in February. Taormina (distance 25 km): founded by the Greeks, Taormina had an incredible development during last century becoming one of the most important tourist resort in the world, well-known for the archaeological and naturalistic beauties. To visit: the ancient Greek-Roman Theatre, Corvaia Palace, the Cathedral, S.Domenico friary, Castelmola, Giardini Naxos, Isola Bella and the nearby seaside: Schis, Recanati and Mazzar. Catania and the Cyclops Riviera (distance 15 Km): town re-built in baroque style after the awful earthquake which destroyed it, almost totally, in 1693. To be visited: the ancient centre of the town with the Cathedral, the Town hall, the Elephant fountain, University square, The Ursino Castle, the Bellini Theatre and Via Crociferi, a wonderful baroque street in the middle of the town. Transportation:
Leave the motorway A18 CT-ME at the Acireale exit. Follow the directions for the S.S.114.Drive towards Messina until you reach Guardia. At the traffic light, follow the sign for MARE or Stazzo. After going through a small tunnel under the railway line,via Guardia-Stazzo will be on the right
