When we returned from our daily tour it was cold and asked for some tea, it was sent to the room promptly and complimentary. It was very much appreciated. The full breakfast contained a wide variety of items and did lack anything.Definately would stay there again.

We spent our only night in Venice at Hotel Ala and would highly recommend it. The value is great compared to other hotels in the immediate vicinity. The location was perfect for us - it is a 2 minute walk from the Giglio vaporeti (water bus) stop; about a 30 minute ride from the train station. It is a very short (~5 minute) walk to St. Mark's Square - close enough for convenience, but with enough distance to feel a bit removed from the madness of the crowds. The room itself was very nicely furnished and clean; surely some of the rooms surely have nice canal views, though ours didn't. The front desk staff was very nice, spoke great English, and were very accomodating, allowing us a slightly early check-in. Breakfast was standard, but plentiful. Hotel Ala didn't have the feel of a chain hotel. We'd highly recommend this hotel in every respect, but especially for its great location from which to explore Venice.

Hotel Ala in Venice offers an excellent price/quality relation and is very well located. Our room overlooks a small waterstreet, where gondolas pass and gondolieres are singing, very romantic indeed.

My wife and I have been several times in the past in this incredibly wonderful city. We have ususally made hotel reservations by ourselves in two and tree stars hotels. The Ala Hotel marked a big difference in our visiting Venice experience. It is 20% more expensive than other 3 star hotels but the price difference is worthwhile room space (by venetian standars at least) and services. Breakfast is included in room price and it is fairly good buffet.

I cannot recommend the Hotel Ala highly enough for travellers on a budget who want to stay in a central Venice position. Yes, the rooms are small. However, it's only a three star hotel and the price for the area reflects this. The location is excellent. It is a 5-10 minute walk from St Mark's Square and a 1-minute walk to the public water transport along the Grand Canal. It is situated in a lovely square and is within walking distance of reasonably-priced restaurants. The rooms all had touches of luxury, like ornate glass chandeliers. Generally European hotels have no tea or coffee facilities in rooms, but Hotel Ala brought up hot water and coffee/tea bags on request! I travelled with three friends and we all say we would return there if ever we visit Venice again.

Location is great and very convenient to the vaporetto stops- you don't have to drag your luggage over any bridges or steps from the boat to the hotel. Breakfast is amazing and was the best on our whole trip. Everything was really great about the overall experience with the exception of the horrible pillows on the bed (everyone was complaining) and the air conditioning did not work very well. Otherwise we would highly recommend this hotel.

Stayed two nights at the Hotel Ala and was very pleased. We had two large rooms overlooking a small canal and were treated to free concerts from the gondolas passing beneath our windows. There's roof top deck where you can look over the roof tops and hear the bells of San Stefano and the Campanile in the late afternoon. The location is great, with an easy walk to San Marco and the Accademia. The staff was helpful and professional and the breakfast spread was very good.

When we arrived the bellman opened the shutters in our room. We looked out, onto the canal, as a gondola floated by, with the gondolier singing. It was a magical moment! What a way to begin our first trip to Venice. This hotel was very central to everything. Close to San Marco; 1 block from the Vaporetto; lots of restaurants and shopping.

This is my secnd time at the Ala. First time in 1988. I has changed a bit. My room in 1988 was larger, probably located in other wing of the building. Unfortunatley I can't remember the room number. Nevertheless I will return to Hotel Ala the next time.

Every thing was nice and lovely, the personal in the counter war very professional and efficient, the waiters in the bar were a little bit slowly but the atmosphere was relaxing, The only thing to improve was the breakfast, If some of food was finished, it took too long to restock it or it wasn’t replaced.

Very good hotel comparing to Venezian standard. Excellent location, close to San Marco. Very easy to find: a short walk up from the Giglio vaporetto station No. 1 to the square. Room and facilities near perfect. The best itinery from Marco Polo Airport: bus (3 euros) to Piazzale Roma, from there take Vaporetto No. 1. (6 euros). Fast, easy, cheap, comfortable. Breakfast was good, but only with limited choice after 10. Cocktails in the bar are fine, we liked them...

I was delighted to have chosen Hotel Ala for my holiday. The staff were fantastic and the hotel very welcoming. It was very clean. The other guests were nice people and there was no trouble at all. The shops nearby were useful and of course the short walk to the St. Mark's Basilica etc meant that sightseeing was easy! Also the nearest waterbus stop was at the end of the street! GREAT!

We were very pleased with the hotel. Great location, friendly staff, the room was very well cleaned and the breakfast was exceptional. There was a bit of noise from guests arguing in the next room and luckily they only stayed one night. We were in the roof and so couldn't see out of the velux but we didn't come to Venice to look out of the window. We've stayed in Venice many times and this was a good quality hotel that was excellent value for money. We were travelling with our adult daughter and she was given a double room close to ours instead of the single we paid for. We would definitely stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to family & friends.

My elderly mother and I were in Venice for 4 days. I booked a "superior" room which I assumed was much bigger based on the photos online. Our room was not even photographed on the website as it turns out! Our room was the SMALLEST room I have EVER stayed in throughout all of Italy at $250 Euros ($400 USD)per night! I questioned it several times at the front desk since I was sure there was some mistake but they assured me that I had indeed received a Superior room! The cleaning lady was the one who told me otherwise, confirming my suspicions. She showed me a superior room. There was NOTHING superior about our room. We had no place to put anything. Our suitcases would not roll between the bottom of the bed and the wall. The closet was extremely small, nightstands were totally useless since they were miniature, and we couldn't even put things under the bed unless it was a pair of shoes. There was MAYBE ONE foot between our bed and the side wall. We ended up moving all the furniture around just to make room for a place to stack our suitcases. Unfortunately, I did not have a photo to show them when I disputed all of this...only my confirmation information. I should have just checked out and would have if my mother weren't with me. But trying to suddenly find a room in Venice is almost impossible. I have been there many times and I have never had a room like this. The bathroom was also small but that is typical in Italy. The best part about this hotel was its location. There are NO steps to deal with at the Vaporetto stop adjacent to the hotel and the private water taxi can arrive right up to the hotel. It's too bad about the room because it looked so beautiful online and I was so excited to see it! If it weren't for that, I would stay there again. I feel I was really ripped off. I got very little for my money, especially with the exchange rate the way it is right now. My advice to everyone, is IF you book this hotel....bring a photo of the r

Overall a nice place to stay, a little pricey but it is Venice. Breakfast is good with a large selection, rooms are clean and spacious and internet is available even if a little to expensive. Located in a good area and close to all the main sites. The extra for a room with a view not really worth it unless you get a room with a balcony and there aren't many.
