The staff couldn't be more helpful at this friendly hotel, bang slap in the middle of Palermo, be it for indicating local car parks (ours was in the courtyard of an old palace), recommending restaurants or serving us drinks on the terrace. The terrace is a haven of peace and quiet above the hustle and bustle of the city and the views superb.

Hotel is in a fantastic location - walking distance to all markets, most of the sites you'd want to visit and on a very good, easily accessible shopping street. The rooftop terrace is unbelievable for breakfast or for just sitting around (but who has time?). Most of the staff was courteous and helpful enough, although breakfast service was a bit frosty. Would absolutely return if ever in Palermo again.

We were delighted with the hotel. It was classy, quiet and clean. Staff were very helpful. The roof garden is great. The location near the train station on a major street was very safe and though not central, it allowed us to easily get into and out of Palermo without using taxis. My only caution is that stall shower is quite small and large people might have difficulty using it.

We had a room on 5th floor which had a very nice view and was reasonably quiet, given that the hotel is in the middle of the city. The location is very central and walking distance to the major sights. Breakfast is nothing special (the usual Italian standard), but the rroftop terrace is a real treat. There's free parking in a side treet around the corner.

Nice hotel within easy walking distance of main bus station. Very creaky old lift to get to the hotel as it sits above shops. Good location and helpful staff. Recommended.

We were very pleased with the location of the hotel on Via Roma among all the best shopping. It was also convenient for the 'sights' and for restaurants. The roof terrace was a terrific bonus as it was a really pleasant place for breakfast and operated as a bar at night. Service was very good and the room comfortable. It was surprisingly quiet given the central location of the hotel. Parking was not provided, but we were directed to a nearby 'garage' where the rates were reasonable.

The summer breakfast terrace on the roof is the best place in the hotel - the view from it onto the city is marvellous. The staff is friendly. Reception is on the 5th floor - unusual. The location is pretty convenient for sightseeing. The room was spacious however very plain and not very cozy. In the corridors there was a specific smell of an old building. Via Roma is a wide street, quite dirty (however it seemed typical for Palermo) with heavy traffic. But on the whole the stay was nice. The view from the roof is worth staying here!

Our room was spacious and comfortable, and we loved the roof-top terrace. Breakfast and late afternoon drinks on the terrace were a highlight of our stay in Palermo. All of the staff were exceptionally helpful with information and tips on dining and sights and travel. If I ever make it back to Sicily I will stay here, and have already recommended the Ambasciatori to other friends.

Stunning roof terrace for breakfast(excellent!) , sunbathing and relaxing is the outstanding feature of this htoel, setting it way above its surroundings. The quiet and lovely views combined with the hotel's central location are a real bonus in this noisy busy city.

Very pleasant hotel for a short stop in Palermo. Near station (300yds) and harbour 5-6 mins walk. On 5th & 6th floor so lift is a must! but the rooftop terrace, used for drinks & breakfast is beautiful with stunning panoramic views. One attached was not in best weather.

We had a two night stay in the Ambasciatori in June, the room was large, slightly sparce, and had no view, having said that it was clean, very functional, and typically Italian. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. (these maybe the only people you hear with such a command of English here )The hotel is in an excellent position to visit the sights of Palermo, we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. I must of course mention the roof terrace, which is possibly the most stunning breakfast setting, certainly in a city that we have ever had, and reason alone to stay at this hotel. there is also a second roof terrace with very comfortable sunbeds, which we were glad of after walking around Palermo for seven hours! It's a lovely place to relax after a long day. If we re-visit Palermo I would definitely stay again. I notice several people have commented on feeling nervous or slightly threatened in Palermo, but we didn't, maybe its because we are from a large city ourselves. We loved it here, it doesn't have any airs or graces, and neither do its people, it is dirty in parts, but the architecture and the feel of hundreds of years of history more than make up for the litter.

We have just spent 4 nights at the Ambasciatori in June 08. Had a great time. The upstairs terrace completely lived up to it's reputation - perfect start to each day before hitting the streets of Palermo. Our room was on the 5th floor at the back, well insulated from most noise others spoke of. Room was charming and light with good rooftop views. Bathroom small but spotless. Our compliments to the staff - they booked restaurants for us even in Rome (at no charge!) as our Italian is very limited. Wait staff at breakfast were terrific too. At night you will need to buzz from the street to be let in. This was never a problem even though we tended to arrive back after midnight. We found the city felt safe and loved the architecture, the markets, the food and the locals' sense of fun. Our favourite restaurant was Nabucco - very close. The appertiser of black olives, broccoli, lobster and tomato jelly had us back for seconds! Something to note - the Capella Palatina is currently closed for renovations. Don't be deterred though, the rest of the Palazzo dei Normanni is still open and is fabulous.

I've been to Palermo twice now, and I've enjoyed it very much. This hotel was great value, and the rooms are much larger than expected. The hotel is conveniently situated very close to the train station. The staff are very helpful, and there is a beautiful rooftop terrace, which is a nice place to sit back with a glass of wine and enjoy the view of the city. I would highly recommend that anyone visiting Palermo consider this hotel.

Third time at this hotel and the standards are as high as ever. Very professional staff, lovely room overlooking Via Roma and the old town. Big bonus is the roof terrace where you have breakfast and can relax in the evening with magnificent views of the city one way and the sea the other. Breakfast is varied and fresh and even the coffee is proper coffee. Excellent location, near the station and the historic centre.

We arrived at this hotel having been in the air for 23 hours to a warm welcome from the reception staff. The hotel was within walking distance of the train station and in a central location for sight seeing. The breakfast on the roof top terrace was "second to none" and staff recommendation for eating at San Andrea(a bit tricky to find at first) was excellent. Our only disappointment was we failed to book an extra night for our return to Palermo but the staff managed to get us an alternative at Hotel Moderno which wasn't nearly as good.
